Farhad Aminpour
Farhad Aminpour is the founding principal of Clean Energy Analytics, LLC, providing management consulting and strategic planning to various participants throughout the energy industry. Farhad specializes in the market analysis of energy industry commodities including electricity, natural gas, renewable energy markets (RECs and SRECs) and emissions allowances (RGGI/CPP/CA GHG Allowances/Compliance Offsets). He is currently engaged on an ongoing basis by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to provide Independent Evaluator services to assist NYSERDA in the evaluation of various clean energy proposals submitted by developers/vendors related to the areas of financing, permitting, interconnection, supply chain, risk assessment, technical analysis, and analytical modeling.
Prior to CEA, Farhad most recently held the position of Director for the Energy Markets Division of Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER). There, he advised senior administration officials on regulatory, legislative and policy related to energy markets in the state, regional and federal settings. Mr. Aminpour represented the Administration in articulating its policies to the PUC, FERC, legislators, ISO-New England, special commissions and taskforces, trade organizations, media and others. He oversaw development of the State’s energy strategy, energy assurance program, and various studies including: the Massachusetts Carbon Tax Study as means to reduce CO2 emissions, and the Massachusetts Low Gas Demand Study which investigated the adequacy of natural gas delivery infrastructure in New England.
Prior roles include Merchant Asset Management Director at Edison Mission Marketing and Trading, , where he managed renewables and emissions portfolios for more than 9,000 MW of wind, natural gas and coal generating resources. At Edison Mission he also held the position of Director, Fuels – Optimization and Trading Strategy, where he developed forward views for energy products to secure profitable trades and transactions, identified trading and hedging opportunities relying on knowledge of regional and interregional market dynamics, cross-commodity price correlations, impact of regulatory changes on supply and demand dynamics, and economics of competing resources in the region.
Prior to Edison Mission, Farhad held the position of Vice President, Project Finance and Asset Restructuring at Citizens Lehman Power, LLC. He identified and developed strategies to acquire and financially restructure several PPAs worth hundreds of million dollars.
He started his career leading project feasibility studies and generation and transmission planning studies for a major engineering company. Farhad earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Operations Research at the University of Texas and a MBA in Finance from Suffolk University.
Roland Scott
Roland Scott is an energy and management consultant and specializes in investment due diligence and business development advising. He is a NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research and Development Authority) Entrepreneur-in-Residence supporting energy start-ups. He has broad energy technology experience and has consulted or supported start-ups in solar, wind turbines, geothermal, combined heat and power, smartgrid, batteries, energy sensors, fuel cells, passive cooling, energy management and hydrogen markets. He was the interim Vice President of Sales and Marketing at a small wind turbine startup. Other prior roles include Interim Associate Director of Research and Development for the Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center (MAREC) developing strategies and writing proposals for renewable and alternative energy. He is a mentor in the NYSERDA funded multi-million dollar 76West energy competition, CleanTech Open, and GrowNY.
Roland was CEO and co-founder of BB Telephony Solutions, LLC; a niche internet start-up telecom carrier and cloud-based service provider. His background also includes management positions at General Electric Company and Computervision where he led marketing and business development efforts targeting engineering firms, energy companies, and utilities. He started his career as a project manager for energy project feasibility studies, long-term power demand forecasts, and short-term power use weather sensitivity and demand management. He has taught undergraduate and graduate level business courses in marketing and new product development.
Roland holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and both a BS and MS in Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. His Master’s thesis studied life-cycle energy use of beverage containers and packaging.
Yamin Afshar
Yamin Afshar has over 35 years of management, business development, sales and engineering experience with energy-related firms, including engineering and construction firms, equipment suppliers, as well as owners and operators of energy projects. He also has demonstrated history of successfully arranging financing for various projects.
As General Manager of the Trigen Atlanta Energy Corporation, he was responsible for supervising operations, management and associated with Trigen’s delivery of chilled water and related services to the 140-acre Atlantic Station mixed-use development project in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition, as Director of Development for Trigen, he was responsible for strategic direction, development and implementation of the business plan to expand Trigen’s business in the South and Southeastern United States.
Yamin’s prior experience includes, Senior Vice President of Development for Cogentrix Energy a leading developer, builder, owner and operator of power projects worldwide. As Senior Vice President of Development and Marketing, he managed a team of developers, financial analysts and technical support personnel in the development of power projects.
Yamin started his professional career as an Electrical Engineer for transmission and substation projects at Chas. T. Main Inc. a subsidiary of Parsons Corporation, a major US engineering & construction firm. Later as Vice President of Development & Marketing he was responsible for the development and implementation of the business plan, including management of the sales force, company proposals, solicitation and arranging of project financing and contract negotiations.
During his career Yamin taught business courses at Central Piedmont Community College and at University of South Carolina.
Yamin Afshar is a graduate of Ohio State University where he earned a BS in Electrical Engineering and a MBA degree from Suffolk University Business School.
